The definition of luck (in my opinion) is when hard  work determination and preparation  meets opportunity. Being in the zone  (in my opinion) is when a person exists in those moments. Its the state of mind  you have when when all things just seem to unfold like an amazing dream sequence. The cool thing about that is you are not thinking about anything when it happens. Your finely tuned actions honed over years and years  forged in the fires of  desire, determination are realized and excellence simply emerges on its own subconsciously. Like the human body’s reaction to fire or how a sneeze is involuntary  it is a reaction to something and it happens with zero thought. Dumb luck is for ever going to be the lazy man’s excuse to watch the days burn trying to relive one or two isolated incidents of perfect moments. They wonder in negativity why those moments are so rare living life waiting in the cut. One does not just decide to go for a walk  to then find themselves on the top of Everest.  It never happens on accident not even “divine” dumb luck (if there is such a thing) will get you to the top of any mountain, in the  proverbial sense or the literal sense of the word. I have found over the years this same thing applies to art and artists. Revelations and drastic improvements in short periods of time can be witnessed in every medium. There are some artistic individuals  that excel so quickly it almost appears to a little suspect at first, but if you look look deeper  you will see a student of the highest order, one who has thrown off the chains of pride and its bedfellow mediocrity, to pursue personal excellence humbling themselves to except the fact that they are not the center of the universe. Desiring knowledge and wisdom over the  abundance of false glory that our ego always secretes. Excellence is definitely a journey not a destination. I realize that some of the quotes I have mentioned are old and used often, but there is a reason why. In my personal experience I have have come to the realization I am no longer just a Chainsaw carver I guess in retrospect I never really was. I am now recognized as an Artist in wood and grateful for it. Journey, quest, path,walk, jog, ride,hike,  whatever you want to call it you can rest assured that I will be ever preparing for the next opportunity.
